Our Customer Reactions to "The Color isn't Real!"

Posted by Sena Wheeler on

Our Facebook ads have attracted a lot of comments - well over 500! Our number one comment has to do with the amazing, vibrant color of our salmon. People just don't believe it's real! Here's what our haters had to say...

The color isn't real!

"Looks like it’s been dyed red"

"that’s just photo editing:)"

"Fyi salmon is not this color"

"Isn’t it supposed to be lighter in color though?"

"That is dyed salmon"

In another blog post, I gave you my 2 cents on this type of comment.

Well, don't just take MY word for it! Hear directly from our customers what THEY think of the skepticism of our detractors. Here's just a few of the comments and stories we received.

"Those people that think REAL salmon has been dyed are probably used to seeing the farm raised fish at the local grocery store!  I used to work at hatcheries at the beginning of farmed raised fish and I know what we used to feed the fish when a pond got sick.  This was while the fish were still in their freshwater phase, so we did not add anything to their food for color at that time, but we sure poured the meds to them when they were sick. To this day is will tell people in the stores "see how pale that salmon is? You don't want to buy that"

"I’m a 70 year old Seattle native and I grew up with a Greek immigrant father that ran a tavern between 1st and 2nd on Pike Street. The Mirror. Charlie and the fish market was our go to for fresh fish. Being from Salonika my father knew good fish. I know good fish.
The fish offered here in Friday Harbor King’s market are often mislabeled in my opinion. Fresh wild fish won’t have a mold taste, only farmed. The pale pink color is to avoid, again, as more likely farmed. The people commenting on the color of your copper river are ignorant of the variability of wild salmon from different species and locations.
I have no advice regarding how to respond to social media but I wanted you to know that your fish are top notch and truthfully labeled."

"Your salmon is unbelievable-in color, taste and health."

"It's a shame when people are presented with real salmon and don't think it's real!"

"I have bought copper river salmon and it IS indeed this color! Yum! Those who do not know would think it is doctored but it is not!"

"My family and I thoroughly love all the salmon, halibut and black cod we get.  We've NEVER been disappointed!!  I will also attest as to the real color of the Sockeye. Keep up the wonderful work.  You're the best!!"

There you have, straight from the fish eaters' mouths! If you haven't tried our fish yet, we'd love for you to see for yourself the amazing color and taste!
