Our Customer Reactions to "It's Not Sustainable!

Posted by April Chisam on

Our Facebook ads have attracted a lot of comments - well over 500! One of our top comments is that "There’s no such thing as sustainable fishing in a dying ocean."

As a 5th generation fishing family, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to preserving the long-term future of fish species and the health of the oceans is unwavering.

To be accused of the opposite is all too common as people often misunderstand the relationship between fish and fisherman. Thankfully, our customers had a lot to say in support and appreciation for our efforts. Read on for their perspective...

"These negative comments have lead to greater education to people like me.  Thank you for what you do."

"I have nothing but praise for you and your company, your product and your customer service."

"Thank you for your message, with most of which I agree. I will continue to eat wild salmon and I avoid farmed salmon."

"Gosh!! Bless your heart! Keep at it."

"I believe in everything you do."

"Amen, Sister!  Well said!"

"Sena…be proud and say it loud!! I love your reminder to support these domestic fisheries to keep the loggers and the miners at bay!  (Or should I say: “outta the bays”. Keep it up!"

"As the second of three generations to gillnet in Cook Inlet for five decades, where sustainable harvest of wild salmon has been law since the 70s, I know what a marvelous enterprise you all have built. Let glib and superficial observers take a breath and do some research.)"

"This is such a thoughtful and insightful response to those Facebook comments. I really hope that the people who wrote them will see your response and actively try to understand the situation better rather than just posting troll comments on websites. Sadly, I have my doubts that this will happen, but I always have hope. Thank you for what you do!"

"I support you and your wonderful fishing family. "

"I just have to say that you guys are a great company.  I’m a Maine lobsterman and in my experience, many in my state (including the govt) don’t share the same long-term commitment to preservation and it shows in our dwindling resources, busted economy and waters only navigable if you have a cage around your prop."

"Our family supports you and your family."

"Thank you for such a thoughtful email! Yes, social media brings hopeless comments.  I hope you don't let these comments steer you away. Keep on keeping on, doing a great job!"

"I’m with you! Very worried about what could happen."

"I’m a believer. I was introduced to Copper River salmon in the 1990s at my local fish market. It was the most beautiful salmon I had ever seen. Every summer I waited for it to appear in the shop. He closed up, I moved and although I looked for it, I never found it.

Fed up with farm-raised, bland salmon I did a google search for Copper River salmon and found you. Yours is the only salmon we eat. I buy other fish for my family of 2, but only buy “wild”. There just is no replacement."

We so appreciate our customers and their support. I guess it's true that eating fish makes you smarter! If you haven't tried our fish yet, we'd love for you to see for yourself the amazing color and taste!
